Children's Choir

The St. Jerome Children’s Choir will sing at the Sunday 11:00 am Mass two or three times per semester. Occasionally, we may also be invited to sing at other Masses.  This choir is open to students from 1st grade & up. All rehearsals will take place on Wednesdays from 4:15-5:00 pm in the choir room. Our first rehearsal for the fall be on September 4, 2024. An exciting change this year is the addition of two directors to help with vocal pedagogy: Mrs. Pam Fette (younger voices) and Ms. Bronwen Kirby (older voices and organist).
 
The goal of the St. Jerome Children’s Choir is to teach children the joy of music and singing within the context of a Catholic Christian community of faith. This includes periodical participation in church liturgies. Participants in this choir are actively involved in the spiritual and liturgical life of the church.  Our desire is to disciple the children so they may learn to serve joyfully as ministers of music at selected liturgies throughout the year.
As a member of the Choir, your child will...

Learn about singing with their head voice and chest voice
Develop his or her vocal range
Gain some basic music theory knowledge and experience
Learn how to apply correct vowel formation and diction in singing
Learn about important Christian composers
Learn Scripture through song
Make new friends in a team-like, Christ-centered environment
Parental Involvement

Parents are a vital part of our vision. You are always welcome to observe rehearsals, if space permits, but you are asked to be seated in the rear the room and not be a distraction to the choir. There will be other adult volunteers helping the director. A parent must be present inside the church at the end of rehearsal for dismissal.

Your child’s role in our parish music ministry does not require them to have a strong background in music. A love of music, the desire to praise the Lord in song and a COMMITMENT from you and your child are the key elements to a fruitful ministry.

There will be a one-time fee of $50 per family for purchase of music books, and other expenses. Our choir at present is limited to 25 children, as that is the most our choir room will accommodate.  Please email Carlos Colón at [email protected] if you have questions.
