Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori religious education
program rooted in sacred scripture and liturgy of the Church. It began in Rome in
the 1950s by a few Catholic women that worked with Maria Montessori. Learn more here: https://www.cgsusa.org/.
St. Jerome will be offering Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Levels 1 and 2
starting in September 2024 and held weekly throughout the school year. Each levelis a 3-year cycle, however since we are growing, children can start at any agebetween 3-10 years old. There will be 3 different session times for 2024-2025.
Three-year-olds must be potty trained and able to separate from their parents.
Level 1 (3-7 year olds) Monday 9-10:30am
Level 1 (3-7 year olds) Wednesdays 4:15-5:30 & 6-7:15pm*
Level 2 (7-10 year olds) Wednesdays 4:15-5:30pm
Melisa Baker is the lead catechist for this class and is trained in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd levels 1 and 2 and has been a Catechist since 2013. She is EIM certified and will have an EIM certified assistant also present during the sessions.
In this lovely form of Catechesis, the child is able to spend time with Jesus, the true teacher, with help of the Catechist, in a beautifully prepared environment.
Sign-ups are now available. There is a $55 annual fee per child fee for materials. The atrium (environment where CGS is held) is located in the annex at St. Jerome. Space is limited to approximately 12-14 children. You do not have to be a member of St. Jerome to participate - all are welcome!
We are in need of assistants and adults who can help with materials making. Priority registration will be given first to assistants and second to children who participated in CGS in 2022/23 or 2023/24.
If you are unsure of which level your child might fit best if they are 6-7 years old, please contact Melisa to discuss.
*Wednesday evenings families in Level 1 from 6-7:15pm might have on church campus sessions for Faith and Family Life depending on which module their family is participating. Priority on attendance should be to their Pathways family session, which is most likely once or twice a month. They can still enroll in CGS and make up any presentations missed when they return.
